OHIO - A Richland County corrections officer who sued Sheriff Steve Sheldon and several co-workers on claims of racial and sexual harassment has settled for $30,000. Angela Pitts sought at least $100,000 in a lawsuit filed in federal court. Pitts' husband, Rashad, also was listed as a plaintiff. In addition to Sheldon, others named in the suit were Maj. Roger Paxton, Capt. Larry Faith, Lt. Robert Santoro, Sgt. Edward Delaney, Sgt. Kristen Gillis and corrections officer Melissa Long. According to court papers, Pitts and her husband acknowledged the following by agreeing to the settlement: The defendants in the litigation have at all times denied any liability or wrongdoing on their part. They (plaintiffs) no longer believe that any action was taken against Pitts based upon either her gender or her husband's race. Their claims are being resolved by Richland County for the sole purpose of avoiding the time and expense of litigation and that the settlement should not be construed as an admission of liability. Under terms of the settlement, Pitts, her husband and Worthington attorney Jay Perez agreed not to comment. If they break the confidentiality agreement, they must pay the county $10,000. Read more.
