County won't look into crimes
By The Seattle Times

WASHINGTON - The Pierce County sheriff has told the state his detectives no longer have time to investigate crimes at prisons and the sex-predator lockup. Sheriff Paul Pastor says he can't afford to devote resources to state institutions and needs to focus on crimes against county residents. Deputies will still respond to 911 emergencies.

The News Tribune reports the decision affects the McNeil Island Corrections Center, the Washington Corrections Center for Women in Purdy, the state's Rainier School for the developmentally disabled in Buckley, and the Special Commitment Center for sex predators on McNeil Island. The Department of Corrections and the Department of Social and Health Services have been told to call the State Patrol for investigations.
