OHIO - The battle over funding for the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office returned to the Hamilton County Commissioners' chambers on Wednesday. Sheriff Simon Leis spoke at the commissioners' scheduled meeting and asked that the county tap into its reserve fund to preserve staffing levels. Leis mentioned the incident last weekend where two deputies were injured during a fight at the Hamilton County Justice Center. Commissioners told Leis that the reserve fund was not an option, suggesting that Leis use his forfeiture fund. But Leis responded that that fund pays for the sheriff's office helicopter, and he was not going to give up the chopper. |
