| Adjustments for sex offender bill |

ARKANSAS - A bill aimed at including level 2 sex offenders in the list of people prohibited from entering public-school campuses got some technical corrections Monday. House Bill 1010 by state Rep. Donna Hutchinson, RBella Vista, follows on a 2007 bill about sex offenders and was written at the request of some public-school officials, Hutchinson said. "We had the third- and fourth-level (sex offenders banned) two years ago, and the schools really wanted second (-level offenders banned), and I had promised them if it's still a problem, I would come back with second this time. They said it's still a problem. We have over 2,000 sex offenders on that level 2, and 80 percent of them are there because of abusing a child," Hutchinson said. A word was left out of the bill, and some instructions were not included, so the bill was corrected and returned to the House Judiciary Committee on Monday, Hutchinson said. Some students who are sex offenders are exempt from the bill, but children are protected from them anyway, the state representative said. Read more.
