Prisoners surrender after escape

CLINTON, La. (AP) - Authorities say two prisoners who escaped from a minimum-security work-release program have turned themselves in. East Feliciana Parish sheriff's deputies say it's unclear how 31-year-old Melvin C. Davis and 24-year-old Eric C. Harvey managed to break loose. But Parish Prison Warden Ray Newman says the men may have had help from outside the prison. Davis and Harvey turned themselves in late Sunday night. Both men are from Houma. Davis was serving time on a drug charge, and Harvey had been sentenced for illegal possession of stolen items and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute. Both were scheduled to be released in 2010. It was not immediately clear if the men will face new charges. Read more.
