Notorious criminal Ronnie Biggs is reportedly back in jail after being treated in hospital for pneumonia. The Norwich Prison inmate was moved to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital last Friday. Neither the Ministry of Justice nor the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital would comment on Biggs' treatment, but Press Association sources said he had returned to prison. The 79-year-old, who is due to be considered for parole later this year, has recently suffered a number of health problems. Last week, a penal reform campaigner said Biggs should be set free and allowed to "die with dignity". "It's about time the Government released Ronnie Biggs," said Mark Leech, editor of The Prisons Handbook. "They've had their pound of flesh, they should now do the decent thing and let this elderly man die with dignity." The prisoner's son Michael, 34, said: "My father is a very sick man who will be 80 this year. "Why don't they just show some compassion and free him so he can be with his family. Why waste taxpayers' money now? My dad isn't a danger to anyone." Biggs, from Lambeth in south London, was a member of a 15-strong gang which attacked the Glasgow to London mail train at Ledburn, Bucks, on August 8, 1963. The criminals made off with £2.6m.
