Fall River — State Correctional Officer and Fall River native Eric Kelly was treated at Norwood Hospital and released Wednesday night after he and two other officers were attacked by two inmates. Department of Corrections Spokesman Diane Wiffin said the incident is under investigation and only so much information can be released at this point. She said the correctional officer, who she would not officially identify even though The Herald News has learned it was Kelly, was attacked from behind by two inmates at Massachusetts Correctional Institution — Cedar Junction at 4:10 p.m., just two hours after the start of the second shift. The inmates had no weapons on them, using only fists. Two other correctional officers who entered the melee also suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the fight, all three being brought to Norwood hospital, treated and released Wednesday night.
