Corrections Secretary Discusses Governor's Early Release Plan

Governor Doyle's budget proposal includes a plan to release some inmates from Wisconsin's prisons sooner. It would give inmates who committed non-violent felonies, such as drug dealing, a chance to earn a "positive adjustment day" for every two days of good behavior. Their time behind bars could be reduced by the number of positive adjustment days they earn, making them eligible for parole sooner. Wisconsin Corrections Secretary Rick Raemisch discussed the plan Monday with the Oshkosh Rotary Club. "We're not sending hoards of rapists and killers running mayhem across the state; sex offenders aren't getting out," he assured them.
