Police: Woman fights back, survives man’s ‘jealous rage’ A Kenosha woman got the upper hand in a rage-fueled assault after she was reportedly stabbed in the mouth, grabbed the knife, bit down and broke the blade, a police report says. Police said the victim, 43, saved her own life by relying on recent correctional officer training in which she learned how to fend off attackers. Regenald O. Ward, 48, of Kenosha, was charged Monday with attempted murder for the weekend attack. If convicted, he faces 40 years in prison. Ward and the victim, his girlfriend of 21 years and the mother of his daughter, had recently fought and had some history of domestic violence, including arrests, a police report says. Both had recently considered separation, but decided to stay together in their home in the 2900 block of 63rd Street, relatives said. Advertisement The tension that relatives said had been building for nearly a week apparently erupted early Saturday, when Ward went into a “jealous rage,” according to a police report. The resulting attack left the victim with slashes and puncture wounds, including one between her eyes when Ward allegedly tried to make good on his threat to cut out her eye. The fight began about 2:30 a.m., after the victim came home from a night out with friends. Ward reportedly was angry that he had not been invited out and fumed about his suspicion that his longtime girlfriend was cheating. The victim said she didn’t want to argue and went to bed. But, by 3:10 a.m., Ward was drunk, yelling and wildly swinging a steak knife. According to the police report: The assault started when Ward cut the victim on the arm. The woman fled from the bedroom, but the confrontation continued, with Ward swinging the knife and threatening to cut the woman’s throat. The couple violently fumbled up the stairs, after the woman broke free from being strangled, had a knife held to her throat and was pulled around by the hair. Once upstairs, Ward cut the woman’s head, threw her onto a bed, slashed her cheek and tried to cut out her eye. The blade missed the eye but pierced the woman’s forehead. Ward stabbed the woman’s head and tried to slit her throat. Instead, the knife sliced her mouth. The woman said she felt the blade cut into her tongue, then grabbed the knife and bit down. The blade broke. She spit a piece of it into a towel and kept fighting. The woman got Ward into a shoulder hold, and Ward began to apologize. Grabbing Ward’s cell phone, the victim tried to call 911 but hit redial. Downstairs, her 21-year-old daughter’s phone rang. The young woman had been asleep throughout the attack. Read more.
