| Work Camp Opens |

Live Oak, FL - The Suwannee Correctional Institution work camp is scheduled to open Tuesday with the introduction of 100 prisoners. "Construction staff, security staff and inmates have worked real hard to bring the work camp online, under budget and ahead of schedule," said Jim Witt, the prison's warden. "We look forward to getting inmates in here and getting started." Witt said 98 persons have been hired at the work camp so far, with a total of 108 positions to be filled. The prison is also in the process of filling entry-level correctional officer positions for the main unit. Witt said 167 officers will be hired for the main unit, with another 167 hired later for the annex. Both the main unit and annex are scheduled to open later this year. The three buildings together will house more than 3,000 inmates and will bring more than 600 jobs to the area. Read more.
