DES MOINES, Wash. — Seven south King County cities have agreed to build a new jail in Des Moines on property that belongs to the Port of Seattle. Construction is expected to start in September on the $81 million jail that would hold 668 inmates for misdemeanors such as drunken driving and other crimes with sentences less than one year. King County told cities they'll have to build their own misdemeanor jails because the county jails in Seattle and Kent will only have room for felons by 2012.Read more.
