North Little Rock - Mayor Hays has declined Pulaski County Judge Villines request that North Little Rock contribute $250,000 along with Little Rock to offset the costs of opening 160 of the 250 minimum security beds at the county jail. The County will open 100 of those 160 beds in July without both city;s contribution. An article in Tuesday's Dem/Gaz written by Jake Sandlin quotes Mayor Hays "At this point, our door is open and our cell phone stays with us, but I don’t know that I’m ready to go to the council at the next meeting and ask that we commit some dollars,” Both Little Rock and North Little Rock prefer to wait to open more beds at the County jail until they see how much revenue is generated by a recently passed legislation sponsored by Representative Barry Hyde, D-North Little Rock generates for the county jail.Read more.
