| Budget Cuts May Take Deputies Off Streets |

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Public safety resources in Multnomah County are about to take a big hit with new budget cuts coming down the pike. The county is facing a $45 million shortfall this year and every department is being forced to cut back. But people who work in law enforcement said they're already stretched too thin. The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office was one of nine departments being asked to cut at least 12 percent from its budget. Deputies said they know that could make it even harder for them to help citizens when they are needed. Jim Mott, who was recently helped by the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, had nothing but thanks and praise for Multnomah County deputies on Tuesday. After Mott's trailer was stolen last weekend, Deputy Chris Wagner came to his house twice, examined pictures of the trailer, did online research and set up a sting with the thieves through Craigslist.
