Less money means less resources for the department of corrections and that means big trouble for everyone in Kansas.

"We know from history crime goes up in a bad economy," said Keven Pellant, Deputy Secretary of Community and Field Services for the state Department of Corrections.

"If we keep people from going to prison it could save us millions," she said.
