Colorado transferred 36 inmates to a prison in Texas last Monday after six gang-related incidents. The state Department of Corrections said the incidents were serious and threatened both inmates and staff. No other details were released. Six of the transferred inmates were convicted of murder, and two of them were sentenced to life without parole. The others were convicted of crimes including sexual assault, robbery, theft and kidnapping. The inmates arrived at the Guadalupe County Adult Detention Center in Seguin, Texas, last Monday. Colorado has a contract to place "special management offenders" at the Seguin facility, state prisons director Nolin Renfrow said. The state pays $43 per inmate per day to house them there. |
