Twenty parolees will go work in East Palo Alto at 8 a.m. Friday, forming into two work crews to pick up trash on state highways in the area, according to Police Chief Ron Davis. This will be the start of the long-planned work program offered through the city's parole reentry program, which began last year. More than 150 parolees have been part of the program since it started in January 2008, receiving counseling and other services to help their transition back to the community. To qualify for the work program, which pays $10 an hour, parolees have to be part of the reentry program and successfully complete an assessment process.
