The Rensselaer County Jail will be able to nearly double its population with a new state mandated expansion. The construction, however, is being paid for strictly through local tax dollars. Our Kaitlyn Ross got a look at the $37 million project.

TROY, N.Y. -- Rensselaer County Sheriff Jack Mahar said, "There's dangerous people, and dangerous people have to have a place to go, and that's the concept here."

Mahar said, "Each of the housing unit officers will be carrying a PDA that will allow them to control the cells, control all the cameras in the room, be able observe what the inmates are doing, why they're in other parts of the housing unit."
