A corrections officer needed to receive stitches after an inmate repeatedly punched her in the head during an altercation at the county jail Wednesday. Authorities say inmate Helen C. Botel, 26, was yelling and kicking the door of a holding cell at the Manatee County jailhouse about 6:45 a.m. Wednesday. The officer entered the cell to calm Botel, who became violent, causing the officer to take her to the floor, the Manatee sheriff's report said. Read more.
