| Corrections worker faces RI drug charges |

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A Providence man who works at a minimum-security Massachusetts correctional facility was arrested Thursday on drug trafficking charges after signing for a package that contained a controlled substance, the Rhode Island State Police said today. Darrell D. Williams, 40, of 78 Indiana St., Providence, was charged with possession of marijuana, possession with intent to deliver and possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. Inspectors from the Providence office of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service intercepted a suspicious package that a certified narcotic-detection canine showed a positive indication for the presence of a controlled substance, the state police said. It contained about 4.3 pounds of marijuana, the state police said. Williams is being held without bail at the Intake Service Center of the Adult Correctional Institutions pending a bail hearing on April 23. Read more.
