| Alabama Corrections Department to add more officers to its work force |

The Alabama Department of Corrections expects to graduate its largest-ever number of corrections officers this year, and the first wave will be the 123 trainees who are to graduate Thursday. The ceremony will take place at 10:30 a.m. at the J.A. Pickard Auditorium in Selma. Selma is home to the Alabama Corrections Academy where prospective officers complete 12 weeks of basic training before graduating. According to a Corrections news release, the department is on track this year to graduate more officers than the 257 it graduated in 2008, the largest number it has generated in the past 10 years. Two more trainee classes are in this year's pipeline. "I think this will provide some relief for our overworked correctional officers, and to quote from Bear Bryant during his early days at Alabama, 'Hang on, help is on the way,'" said Corrections Commissioner Richard Allen.
