Kinross Correctional Facility has named Cheboygan native Mark Fenlon its Officer of the Year. Mark has been a member of the Michigan Department of Corrections for 23 years.

Fenlon has worked at Kinross since 1986, chiefly as a custody officer on the day shift.

Mark’s ability to make sound decisions, coupled with an exceptional understanding of human nature and a calm demeanor, were cited by co-workers and managers in their nomination of him for the award.

“Mark is an excellent Custody Officer. His ability to work with people, attention to detail, remaining calm under stress, and concern for the security of the facility, staff, and prisoners represents the best possible combination of traits a corrections professional can possess. I would work with Mark any time,” said Lt. Doug Krause.

Fenlon is understandably honored by the recognition from his peers.

“I am honored that the Selection Committee chose me to represent the Corrections Officers who work at KCF. They are professionals whom I have enjoyed working with over the years.

They have helped me during the challenges of a career in corrections and have made my time here worthwhile. “I am especially proud to work with the staff on day shift as I feel we have established an exceptional ‘can-do’ team spirit.
