Authorities recently arrested a 22-year-old Hartford man on a single count of reckless murder in the beating death of a Florida corrections officer. Hartford Police Chief Ben Berry said investigators charged Jonathan Wes Windham, 22, of South First Street, after he turned himself in to the Geneva County Jail on Monday. Berry said police charged Windham with killing Timothy Fowler, 52, during an altercation at Fowler’s Hartford home on Jan. 3. At the time of his death, Fowler worked as an officer with the Florida Department of Corrections. Berry said the autopsy showed Fowler suffered blunt force trauma to the head, which led to his death. Most of the injuries were to the side of Fowler’s head. “The doctor who performed the autopsy said the injuries were consistent with someone being hit with a fist,” Berry said. Berry said both men had been drinking at the time of the altercation, which happened in the front yard of Fowler’s home. “Wes said that Tim had swung at him with a flashlight and struck him on the side of the neck,” Berry said. “But when he (Windham) was interviewed he had no visible injuries. He said he retaliated by throwing several punches.” Read more. If link has expired, check the website of the article's original news source. |
