A 41-year-old inmate was murdered last Friday at a minimum-security Los Lunas prison in New Mexico. Investigators say the man, whose name has not been released, was found strangled and stuffed in a storage closet. Officials say the murder happened sometime between 4:00 and 6:00 last Friday evening, and the crime was most likely not caught on tape. Investigators believe three to six other inmates were involved in the killing. No officers witnessed the murder, but Corrections Department spokesperson Tia Bland said, "Inmates are not ever out of the sight of correctional officers." Bland says violence is extremely rare at the prison, but other inmates have been murdered there. The most recent was in 1999. State police say no charges have been filed yet, and they do not believe any officers were involved in the crime. |
