| State cuts payments to county jails |

ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY, N.Y. -- Each year, county jails house felons waiting to be transported to state facilities and the state used to reimburse them for some of the cost, but not anymore. Budget cuts now eliminate the money paid back to county facilities for housing those inmates. Last year, St. Lawrence County received about $20, 000 in reimbursement funds.
