| Monroe board begins warden search |

SNYDERSVILLE — The Monroe County Prison Board agreed Monday — nearly six weeks after the vacancy occurred — to formally begin looking for a new warden. The board voted 5-0, following a two-hour private session, to advertise in local, regional and national publications for a successor to former warden David Mauro. Mauro and Capt. Owen Thomas — the Monroe County Correctional Facility’s third ranking administrator — agreed March 11 to resign retroactive to their job suspensions Feb. 27. The suspensions were imposed after Thomas allegedly uttered a disparaging remark to Mauro about another corrections officer, in the employee lunchroom within earshot of others. Read more.
