VINELAND — A state corrections officer on his way to work died after his car struck a tree on West Landis Avenue, police said.

Roberto D. Gonzalez, 23, was driving a tan 2008 Chevrolet Malibu west on West Landis Avenue about 6:45 a.m. Saturday when his car veered off the road, crossed the eastbound lanes of travel and slammed head-on into a tree in front of Landis Intermediate School.
