| Fountain wants 10 more beds |

COVINGTON, Ind. — The Fountain County Council would like to see the capacity of the jail increased. “If we could just get 10 more beds in there,” council President Richard Klage said Monday, referring to the number of inmates who are housed in adjacent counties because of the shortage. The jail can hold 25 men. All women are housed out of the county. “It is worth investigating,” said councilman Dale Clawson. Sheriff Bobby Bass said that any changes would have to be brought up to code. “You have to have so square footage per inmate,” he said. While the councilmen continued their meeting, Bass contacted the Indiana Department of Corrections commissioner who indicated he would work with the county on the possibility. “He said the he would send out an inspector and auditor to take a look,” Bass said.
