Bring back inmate crews

The Snohomish County inmate roadside litter clean-up program has been disbanded due to budget cuts.

I called the county and reported scattered litter in my neighborhood and asked if they would schedule the County Corrections Litter Van to pick up the trash. I was told that the program was discontinued. What a shame! In the past when called they would come and pick up the trash along our neighborhood streets. In these times of declining budgets, one would think that such a program should flourish.

KOMO news recently reported a story about Skagit County's illegal dumping problems. Skagit County has a crew of inmates doing the same type of clean-up. The crew leader was a woman, employed by Skagit County. She didn't appear to have a weapon and the inmates weren't gang chained together! Since the Snohomish County program has been terminated, does that mean the inmates in Snohomish County are so bad that they can't or won't qualify for a similar program as Skagit County's?
