York County inmate tested for swine flu

York County Prison is back to normal after 60 prisoners and staff members were placed in isolation when an inmate developed flu-like symptoms.
Test results on the inmate were negative for the flu, said York County Prison Warden Mary Sabol.
The inmate was from El Salvador and transferred to the prison from Maryland, she said.
After developing flu-like symptoms, the detainee in the immigration unit was referred to the medical unit for testing, Sabol said.
As a precaution, the prison had isolated about 60 inmates and staff members who the inmate had come in contact with until the test results were complete, Sabol said.
Prison operations are now back to normal for the staff and the 2,200 inmates at the Springettsbury Township facility, she said.
Commissioner Doug Hoke said Sabol took the proper precautions. Hoke and fellow Commissioner Steve Chronister said the prison has a defined procedure to address contagious diseases, including the flu.
