Jail steps up raids following inmate overdose This incident has the sheriff's department worried about who is bringing drugs inside the jail. According to the sheriff smuggling drugs is a problem every jail has. According to the U.S. Department of Justice approximately 50 inmates die from a drug overdose every year. One of the top three problems at the jails. " The Sheriff's Department has made raids inside the jail and they found different ways inmates use to transport drugs from cell to cell."
