Additional sexual assault claims have surfaced against an officer in the private Kentucky prison that is holding 233 Vermont inmates, officials said. Kentucky authorities are now investigating allegations that an officer suspected of sexually assaulting one Vermont inmate was involved in sexual acts with inmates earlier this year. "We have received allegations that additional things happened that preceded the incident that occurred last Thursday," Vermont Corrections Commissioner Steven Gold said last Wednesday. "This information has been turned over to authorities down there." Gold said that Ray Flum, an aide he dispatched to the Marion Adjustment Facility in St. Mary, Ky., last weekend, interviewed two alleged victims of sexual assault, one of whom was involved in both last week's incident and the earlier one. The officer was fired last Monday by the prison's operator, Corrections Corporation of America. Corrections Corporation of America spokesman Steve Owen would not comment on the new allegation pending the outcome of his company's investigation into the officer's conduct. |
