Indictments for Smuggling Cell Phone

A grand jury in East Texas has indicted Central Texas death row inmate Richard Lee Tabler, his mother and his sister in an alleged cell phone smuggling case that led to a statewide prison lockdown.
The Polk County Grand Jury also indicted Tabler, 30, who was convicted in the murder of a Central Texas nightclub owner and another man, on a felony retaliation charge for threatening to kill state Sen. John Whitmire of Houston.
Special Prosecutions Chief Gina DeBottis told the Austin American-Statesman that Tabler was indicted along with his mother, Lorraine Tabler, 60, and sister, Kristina Martinez, 36, of Salado, on charges of possessing contraband in a state prison.
Another inmate, Michael Roy Toney, 43, was indicted on similar charges.
Toney was on death row but is now awaiting a new trial.
The cell phone with which Tabler was caught was used to make, 2,800 calls in 30 days.Read more.
