| Fishing rod used to smuggle drugs into Ranby prison |

BRAZEN criminals have used a 14ft fishing rod to smuggle drugs to inmates at Ranby Prison. Prisoners were reported to have used a grappling hook to scoop up the illegal substance from a window of the cell block. The scheme was only uncovered when prison officers discovered the rod just outside the prison wall, according to a report in a national newspaper. A spokesman for HMP Ranby said: "As a result of intelligence led security at HMP Ranby, staff retrieved an object from outside the prison wall believed to be used to breach prison security." "This matter was investigated internally. Security is paramount in prisons and the Prison Service takes security breaches very seriously."
