| Brazen gang member sneaks mobile phone into prison |

Security is to be tightened after a gang member managed to smuggle a mobile phone into a prison and then posted pictures of himself posing menacingly on the internet, Yourmedway reports. Joland Giwa – doing time at HMP Rochester for robbery – snapped himself flexing his muscles in his cell before brazenly uploading the images onto his Facebook profile. Extra body scanners are now to be drafted in to prevent similar security breaches. A spokeswoman for the prison, in Fort Hill, Rochester, said: “Mobile phones are illegal in prisons for staff, members of the public, and, of course, the prisoners themselves. “We will be bringing in body orifice scanner chairs, which detect metal including mobile phones and sim cards.” The prison will also get high sensitivity metal detectors and mobile phone signal detectors in the next few weeks to stop similar breaches. Giwa – the self-proclaimed general of Croydon’s notorious DSN (Don’t Say Nothing) gang – was seen leering into the camera from his cell at the Rochester institution in the last few weeks. Although the 20-year-old’s Facebook profile has now been removed, prison officials were made aware of the security breach when an insider complained. One uploaded picture shows how cushy life is for the convicted criminal, as his cell is furnished with a television, a stereo and a kettle. Read more.
