| 2 caught after escape try at state prison |

By Alexis Huicochea Arizona Daily Star Tucson, Arizona | Published: 05.15.2009 A murderer and another inmate, both serving life sentences at the state prison on Tucson's Southeast Side, tried to escape Wednesday night but were caught before they even made it off of the grounds. Joshua Aston, 22, and John Wells, 48, made their way out of their cells and past one of several security fences, officials said. Aston was convicted in the slaying of a Del Monte Fresh Produce regional manager in Maricopa County in 2004. Wells was transferred to the Tucson prison 11 years ago from Maryland after being convicted of three counts of armed robbery and three escapes, the Arizona Department of Corrections said. The men activated an alarm near the perimeter fence around 9 p.m., according to the Corrections Department. The Corrections Department contacted the Tucson Police Department at 12:53 a.m. for assistance in finding the men. Read more.
