Marion prison confirms fight investigation [Corrections Office]r and inmate injured By JOHN JARVIS • The Marion Star • May 19, 2009 MARION - Assaults of an inmate and a corrections officer and a disturbance involving approximately 150 inmates at North Central Correctional Institution on Friday night are under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Advertisement The officer was injured by an inmate, and an inmate was injured by another inmate, according to news releases issued Monday by the patrol's Columbus headquarters. The patrol received a report of a disturbance at 7:30 p.m. involving an estimated 150 inmates on the prison's compound yard. No serious injuries were reported to either the inmates or the responding correctional staff. Troopers also are investigating an attack by an inmate on another inmate, which occurred at 9:10 p.m. The victim suffered serious injury to the face and head and was transported off the prison grounds for further outside medical treatment. The patrol also is investigating a report that an inmate attacked a corrections officer, causing serious injury to the officer's facial area. He was transported off the prison grounds for further outside medical treatment. Sgt. K.M. Taulbee of the patrol's public affairs unit said she didn't know if the incidents were suspected to be related and would release no further information until authorities decide whether to file any charges related to the incidents and complete such filing.
