Corrections Officer Respect

Lakeland, FL , There was April 9 letter from Sgt. Andrew Borden, U.S. Army Military Police. My son joined the Army to become an MP to get the necessary experience to go to work with the Polk County Sheriff's Office when he finished his tour with the Army.
He graduated from Fort McCelland's MP training school, then spent time at Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin. Then he spent the remaining time in the Army as an MP in Washington.
When he came home, he applied immediately for employment with the Sheriff's Office. There were no jobs for patrol officer, but there was an opening with the Corrections Department. He finally decided to take the corrections deputy position.
Over the years, he has not had the respect that he deserved or would have gotten if he would have waited for a patrol officer position to open up. But he has gained the respect he deserves from the people with whom he works and the people he assigns to work detail for the weekend program.
I can tell you that this "proud mama" beams every time she sees him in his uniform, all 6 feet 4 inches and 200 pounds. I think everyone who knows him knows he is an excellent employee of the PCSO.
I can only hope that Sgt. Borden will gain the respect he deserves, as my son has.
