A former Haltom City (Texas) jailer whose arrest on charges of sexually abusing female inmates prompted a slew of lawsuits against the city was sentenced to five years in prison. Clint Wade Weaver, 23, who had been free on bail, was taken into custody Monday after the judge announced the sentence on three charges of abuse involving women who were jailed in Haltom City, a Fort Worth suburb. Weaver must attend treatment sessions and register as a sex offender, and he will be on probation 10 years after his release. With deferred adjudication, Weaver's conviction will be taken off his criminal record if he completes probation, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported. His arrest will remain on his record. Weaver pleaded guilty in February to two charges of sexual assault and a civil-rights violation. The Azle resident must serve at least 2 1/2 years before he is eligible for parole. |
