Escaped Convicts Nabbed Escapees caught hiding in trailer in Fayette County By Jackie Ayres-Register-Herald Reporter West Virginia State Police have apprehended the remaining two inmates who escaped 12 days ago from a Mount Olive Correctional Complex minimum-security camp work detail. Troopers found the fugitives, Robert Cole, 27, of Ohio County, and Nicholas Lane, 28, of Cabell County, hiding in a mobile home on Betty Jane Lane off W.Va. 61 near Kincaid in Fayette County. Cole and Lane escaped June 4 with a third inmate, Brandon Williams, when their work crew stopped at the Division of Highways office in Beckley for lunch. The three were part of a group of six work camp inmates being supervised by one correctional officer. Williams was taken into custody June 9 by Cabell County sheriff’s deputies at a BP station in Guyandotte, while Cole and Lane remained at large. Cole was serving one to 15 years for manufacturing and delivery of a controlled substance; Lane was serving two to 14 years for wanton endangerment and breaking and entering and Williams, 23, of either Logan or Mingo County, was serving one to 10 years for grand larceny. Monday’s apprehension of Cole and Lane resulted from two anonymous tips followed up on by Trooper First Class R.A. Daniel of the Beckley detachment. Read more.
