State to sign prison health care pact

A federal judge has given the Schwarzenegger administration 15 days to sign an agreement intended to reform the health care system for California inmates.

U.S. District Judge Lawrence Karlton said Tuesday that it is "intolerable" that the administration has not yet approved a tentative agreement reached in late May with the court-appointed receiver.

He gave the administration three months to present an alternative if it rejects the compromise. If the alternative isn't fully funded, Karlton warned that he will take money "in a real dramatic way" from the state treasury.
