First Look at Inside of New Huntsville Jail By Eric Sollman - Posted by Dana Franks HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - An official move-in date for inmates has not yet been set, but on Wednesday, members of the media got a look inside the new Huntsville-Madison County Metro Jail. The jail on Wheeler Avenue looks finished from the outside, but there's still some technical things to complete. Wednesday Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle grabbed the keys and let WAFF 48 News roam free in that place of confinement. "I invite you to look around, this is a place that I've been in a couple of times, and don't want to come back to," said Battle. Lights. Camera. Record. It's been more than a year since members of the media made their way through the jail's hallways. Now we're seeing if your money is making a difference. "What's in it for the tax payers? Number one you have a safe secure jail, and a safe secure facility," said Battle, "number two you have operational costs savings." What may save you some change in the long run, has already cost you millions. "This has been a project that was originally budgeted for 26 million dollars, and it's going to hit somewhere near 80 million dollars," said Battle.Read more.
