Broward County seeks volunteer to run jail Broward County commissioners announced a want ad recently: Anyone want to operate a jail ASAP? Due to budget cuts, Broward Sheriff Al Lamberti plans to shutter the Stockade, one of five jails, by July 31, and lay off 177 workers. County commissioners suggested that perhaps another city -- Fort Lauderdale or Hollywood, for example -- would want to take over the Stockade.
