Search for inmate continues July 14, 2009 The search for an inmate who escaped from Carteret Correctional Center in Newport is in its second day. Dale Beatty, 46, was on an off-site work assignment at a N.C. Department of Transportation facility in Newport when he left the job site. He was last seen about 2 p.m. Monday, prison officials said. The search continued through the night Monday and into Tuesday, with N.C. Department of Correction officers working with area law enforcement to find Beatty. “We’re concentrating (the search) in Havelock, Morehead City and Newport and as we get information we’re sending staff to other areas,” said Lewis Gray, the prison assistant superintendent. Beatty, a white male, is 5-feet, 10-inches tall and weighs 178 pounds with black hair and hazel eyes. Read More. |
