Having taken a set of golf clubs on her holiday to the Caribbean, Kayti Dryer might have been expected to have a reasonable understanding of the game. So when Customs officers became suspicious on her return to Britain, the 23-year-old's cover story was quickly exposed as a sham. Asked what her handicap was, she apparently thought she was being asked if she had a disability. When she was unable to answer, they seized the golf clubs and found £83,000 worth of cocaine hidden inside the shafts. Today she was starting a four-year prison sentence after admitting smuggling the drugs. Dryer was quizzed when she arrived at Manchester Airport in April after border staff became suspicious when her golf bag was X-rayed after she got off a flight from the Caribbean. She claimed to have taken the clubs on holiday to Montego Bay in Jamaica, but her story did not stand up to scrutiny.
