Swine flu: Preparations behind bars By Lisa Smyth Tuesday, 21 July 2009 Information leaflets on how to protect against swine flu have been handed out to prisoners being held across Northern Ireland. The Northern Ireland Prison Service (NIPS) has been pro-active in its preparations since the World Health Organisation’s initial announcement of the outbreak of swine flu in Mexico earlier this year. Inmates at prisons throughout Northern Ireland could be at particular risk due to the close proximity in which they live. However, a spokesman from the Northern Ireland Prison Service said: “We are working in close partnership with our partners in the health sector to prepare for a potential outbreak.” Read More. |
