MADISON -- A Plover man with a prior conviction for possession of child pornography faces 25 to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty Thursday in federal court to making child pornography in 2008. Alfred T. Shippy, 44, admitted Thursday to engaging in sexually explicit conduct with a 10-year-old girl in his home in order to record it on a digital camera. The camera was bought by Shippy's girlfriend, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Laura Przybylinski Finn. Shippy had been convicted in Grant County in 2002 on 31 counts of possessing child pornography. He was sentenced to a year in jail and placed on probation until February 2008. Within a month of the end of his probation, he began recording sexually explicit videos of the girl and did so on four occasions between March 2008 and his arrest Sept. 29, 2008, according to the indictment. In exchange for his guilty plea, the government will recommend a reduced prison term at Shippy's Sept. 28 sentencing before District Judge Barbara Crabb. Shippy's second pornography conviction increased the mandatory minimum penalty he will serve from 15 to 25 years. Read More. |
