Standish residents want prison to stay open for jobs

Bring 'em on.

That's the sentiment in Standish, a rural town about 2 hours north of Detroit. It stands to lose 300 good-paying jobs if the state goes ahead with plans to close the maximum security prison on the outskirts of town.

So when California authorities came looking at available prison space or the White House talks about possibly transferring Guantánamo Bay prisoners to the Standish Maximum Correctional Facility, that's just fine with city residents.

"If it keeps jobs in the community, it would be fine," said Dave Horn, 29, of Bentley.

Horn has worked at the prison for more than 4 years and hopes he would get to work at the facility if it became a federal prison.
