Eight Swine Flu Cases Confirmed in Kentucky Prison Inmates Recovered; Visitation Halted By Tony Rutherford - Huntingtonnews.net Reporter Pine Knot, KY (HNN) -- At least eight inmates at the U.S.P. McCreary have been confirmed to have the Swine Flu (H1N1) virus, according to reports from prison officials. The federal prison has been placed on lock down and social visits have been suspended for ten days, according to prison information officer and executive assistant, Fernando Messer. Originally only one housing unit at the facility has been placed on quarantine. Several prison staff members complained of symptoms, but after visiting private physicians their illnesses were determined to be upper respiratory or sinus infections. According to an article in the McCreary County Voice, that appeared July 31 at which time six inmates were infected, Messer stated, “There is no risk to the general public.” The prisoners suffering from the flu have been at the facility for more than six months.
