| Officials coming to see Standish prison |

Federal officials are to visit the Standish Maximum Correctional Facility today to determine whether it's an appropriate prison for detainees now held in a military installation at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba. Officials from the governor's office and the state Department of Corrections are expected to give a 10 a.m. tour of the prison to representatives from the U.S. departments of defense, justice and homeland security. "This visit is intended only to gather information about the facility," an administration official said on condition of anonymity. The person was not authorized to speak publicly about the visit. "No decisions have been made about where to locate Gitmo detainees, and multiple options are being considered." Though many Standish officials and residents are eager for any new prisoners that would prevent a shutdown of the prison, the biggest employer in the northeastern Michigan town, some state and federal officials are less than thrilled with the prospect of having terrorism suspects in the state.
