The Westchester district attorney said on Tuesday that she would not file any criminal charges relating to the crash in which a Long Island woman killed herself and seven others when she drove headlong into another vehicle on the Taconic State Parkway last month. “At this point, our investigation reveals that the only person who could have been criminally charged in this case is Diane Schuler,” the district attorney, Janet DiFiore, said at a news conference, referring to the driver. “Diane Schuler, as you know, died in the crash, and the charges died with her.” Alcohol and a chemical in marijuana were found in Ms. Schuler’s body after the crash, but Ms. DiFiore, referring to Ms. Schuler’s husband, Daniel, said, “There is no evidence that would lead us to believe that he had any knowledge that she was intoxicated or smoking marijuana.” They last saw each other hours before the crash on July 26, as they left a Sullivan County campground in separate vehicles. Ms. Schuler’s son, Bryan, 5, survived. Read More. |
